Green Health Leaders: Lead, follow or get out of the way of the tornados

This Webinar will provide an overview of the relationship between health and the environment and build the case for health leaders to become stronger champions for the environment.  New trends including the need to build resiliency and adapt to climate change, carbon pricing and opportunities arising from the clean tech revolution will be discussed.  Results of a workshop held at the National Health Leadership Conference in Vancouver will be summarized and a conversation with a CEO that participated will be part of the presentation. Participants will also be asked to text their feedback and suggestions for necessary actions.

Neil Ritchie leads the Green Health Leader’s Initiative, a program of the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care that focuses on enabling executive leaders, physician leaders and board members to become better environmental stewards.  Neil is an experienced health care executive who has worked as a CEO, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of large, multi-site academic teaching centers, regional health authorities and community hospitals in Canada. He currently is President of Invicta Health, a contract management company focused on improving performance and sustainability in health care.  Neil holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dalhousie University and a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta.  

Anne-Marie Malek is President and Chief Executive Officer of West Park Healthcare Centre, a position she has held since 2005. Prior to that, Ms. Malek was the Vice President Programs and Chief Nursing Executive at the Centre.  Ms. Malek serves on the boards of the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto and the Public Services Health and Safety Association.  A graduate of Dalhousie University’s Bachelor of Nursing Programme, Ms. Malek also holds a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta and is a certified health executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders.

JJ Knott is Vice Chair of the Board of the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care and a member of the Coalition’s National Energy Advisory Committee. He helped develop the concept, framework and delivery model of the HealthCare Energy Leaders Ontario (HELO) program.  J.J. helped develop the Green Revolving Fund (GRF) pilot initiative so that healthcare facilities across Ontario could benefit from funds raised through the carbon cap and trade program.  Between 2011-2013, JJ acted as President for the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES) involving over 1000 members across Canada. He has also served as the Director of Plant Operations and Project Manager at the Norfolk General Hospital and is an authority on hospital power needs and how health care facilities interact with energy supply companies.

Attendance at this program entitles certified Canadian College of Health Leaders members (CHE / Fellow) to 1.0 Category I credits toward their maintenance of certification requirement.
