London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals, is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. LHSC is now seeking a dynamic, innovative healthcare leader as the Director, Quality & Performance.

The Quality & Performance team is committed to leading work to improve the delivery of patient care and hospital services and enhance the overall patient and family experience at LHSC. The team promotes this work by using the principles of continuous quality improvement, along with various quality improvements, and patient and family centered care best practices. Our team is passionate and driven to help to create and sustain change that will positively impact patients, families and staff. The department is guided by the Quality Framework as well as patient and family centered care principles and competencies.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Vice President & Chief Nursing and Quality Officer, the Director, Quality & Performance is accountable to provide oversight and leadership for London Health Sciences Centre’s activities related to: development, leadership and dissemination of quality monitoring reports; quality public reporting; development and leadership of hospital performance report cards, including patient safety and quality indicators, and patient satisfaction processes; education for teams and departments related to quality improvement, performance measurements, external clinical quality, and clinical benchmarking. In addition, monitors ongoing compliance to Accreditation Canada Standards and provides leadership in the development of the annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).

The Director is responsible for providing leadership in advancing London Health Sciences Centre’s journey toward Continuous Improvement of Care through a LEAN methodology framework. This position facilitates, trains and mentors hospital teams working on Quality and Performance initiatives and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, patient advisors and departments to identify and prioritize activity. The Director uses data and expert opinion to develop solutions, implementation, control and monitoring plans to assure sustained results and adherence to relevant legislation. The ideal candidate will have healthcare and leadership experience and be skilled and confident in leading corporate wide quality improvement and change initiatives in shared accountability with physician partners.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in health administration or business or health related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressive Leadership experience in an acute care hospital, preferably leadership of a large team in a teaching hospital
  • Four (4) to five (5) years of demonstrated leadership experience in project leadership and quality improvement
  • Working knowledge of multiple quality improvement and performance measurement methodologies including LEAN, Six Sigma
  • Thorough understanding of how to enable the culture shift that will be required to enhance the patient experience and engage in quality improvement using lean principles, tools, processes
  • Track record for creating a quality improvement culture and means for monitoring and communicating results that is meaningful to team members and inspires continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated leader of leaders; capable of developing other leaders to their full potential
  • Demonstrated business expertise including leadership of multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering results with excellent financial and quality leadership, project leadership and risk leadership experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated participatory and values-based leadership and a proven track record for developing and sustaining healthy work environments and effective teams while leading in a performance-driven culture

Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis. In addition, they will need to provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step).
